‘Old Ghan Line’, Binns Track & the East Kimberley’s

Overview Itinerary

A detailed itinerary will be provided upon 4WD Tour booking and payment of the tour deposit.

As this is an Extended 'Multi Entry & Multi Exit' Tag along Tour, you can join us for all or part of this tour (i.e. just the 'Old Ghan Line' and/or just the 'Binns Track' or the full tour) and the costs are noted below accordingly.

Trip Cost

$7400.00/vehicle - 30 Days Total Tour Cost (incl. GST) per vehicle – 2 people (Additional costs for extra adults or children)   **Price maybe subject to change depending on final numbers**

Clients can elect to do the 'Old Ghan Line' only - 11th of June to 18th of June (inclusive)

$1750.00/vehicle - 8 Days Total Cost  (incl. GST) per vehicle – 2 people (Additional costs for extra adults or children).

OR the 'Binns Track' only - 19th of June to 26th of June (inclusive)

$2150.00/vehicle - 8 Days Total Cost  (incl. GST) per vehicle – 2 people (Additional costs for extra adults or children) * There's more campground camping (with facilities) on this tour.

AND/OR the 'East Kimberley's' only - 27th of June to 10th of July (inclusive)

$3500.00/vehicle - 14 Days Total Cost  (incl. GST) per vehicle – 2 people (Additional costs for extra adults or children) * There's more caravan park camping with facilities on this tour.

The 'Old Ghan Line' tour finishes at Alice Springs - Clients can then explore the Red Centre as they wish.

For those staying with us, we'll have a 2 day rest at Alice Springs to visit the local sites and then the 'Binns Track' tour finishes at the end of that track at Timber Creek - Clients can then make their own way up to Darwin or across to Katherine, if they wish.

For those doing the whole tour, we'll have a 2 day rest at Lake Argyle to visit the local sites and enjoy a sunset cruise, then across to Kununurra to explore the East Kimberley before heading down the 'Tanami Track' and the tour finishes at Alice Springs.

Driver Experience

Some prior 4WD experience in sand & rocks would be useful and we will help you along the way and/or perhaps you’d like to attend one of our Driver Training Courses prior to the trip.

Requirements

Minimum of 3 (Three) vehicles required to run the tours.

All our 4WD Tag along Tours are Eco-Accredited and we are a fully licensed Commercial Tour Operator in SA, NT & WA with 'Advanced Ecotourism', 'EcoStar' & 'ROC' Accreditations.

Days 1 - 4

We leave Quorn and head north following the 'Old Ghan Line' along the Oodnadatta Track as we learn all about the railway history and visit settlements along the way. From Oodnadatta we make our way to the picturesque Eringa Waterhole to make camp. This is remote area touring but very relaxed with 9.00am starts and 'Happy Hours' on most days.

Day 5 - 6

We make our way to Mount Dare for a shower and a drink at this iconic remote Outback pub and fuel up before heading towards Finke. You'll see how hard life was in this remote area and we make a small detour into Chambers Pillar before finishing our tour and relaxing in Alice Springs.

Days 7 - 8

A relaxed 2 day break in Alice Springs and a chance to sight see around the town and restock our supplies. While we're in 'The Alice', you'll have our own special guide booklet to give you some ideas of the numerous things you can see & do around town!

Days 9 - 14

We move on through the East McDonnell Ranges visiting Emilly & Jessie Gaps, Corroboree Rock, Trephina Gorge, Ross River Homestead and N'Dhala Gorge. Then it's out to Arltunga Historic Reserve to see the ruins of the gold mine workings and then up into the Harts Range. We spend a few days exploring and camping here before making our way up and into Davenport Range.

Day 15 - 17

An overnight stay at Devils Marbles and a chance for some photography of these unique rock formations before moving north to Daly Waters and its iconic Pub, where you can play ten pin bowling in the main street! Then it’s back on to the Binns Track and across to Timber Creek for the night. For those doing the Binns Track Only the tour ends at Timber Creek.

Days 18 - 20

Then on to the magnificent Lake Argyle and Ord River for a few days break and a chance to enjoy this scenic area. We'll take a sunset cruise on the lake and learn all about the construction of the dam and how it opened up this whole region for agriculture.

Days 21 - 24

A short drive to Kununurra for a few nights stay while we explore the region and all it has to offer and a chance to restock our food & fuel supplies. Then we head south down to the Bungle Bungles for a few days break and a chance to enjoy this picturesque area.

Days 25 - 27

A few days for camping, walking and photography in the magnificent Bungle Bungles including Echidna & Picanny Gorges & the magnificent Cathedral Rock formation.

Day 28

A day for walking and photography at the impressive Wolfe Creek Crater, the second largest meteorite crater in the world.

Days 29 - 31

We leave Wolfe Creek Crater and hit the iconic 'Tanami Track' as we head south east for Alice Springs to complete our epic journey and have our 'End of Tour dinner' and a chance to relive the tour highlights!!

Notes:

1. Those doing the 'Binns Track' only, will meet us at Alice Springs.

2. A minimum of 3 (Three) vehicles is required to run these tours.

3. Travelling along the 'Binns Track' is remote area touring and you may need to carry extra fuel in jerry cans (depending on you fuel tank capacity)     

4. Due to unforeseen weather, terrain or mechanical issues, it may take longer to do the 'Binns Track' than mentioned.

5. Average temperatures in July are: Daytime - 25 degrees Celsius and Overnight - 8 degrees Celsius.

6. Price includes all Aboriginal Lands Permit fees, SA, NT & WA Parks Passes, all Caravan Park and Campground camping fees, a sunset cruise on Lake Argyle and 'End Of Tour' dinners at Alice Springs, Timber Creek and on our final return to Alice Springs.

7. All vehicles to have Front & Rear Rated Recovery Points fitted if possible for your vehicle.
